Dyslexia Resources
SBISD provides screening, assessment, and programming for dyslexia and dyslexia related disorders as outlined in the updated TEA State Dyslexia Handbook.
TEA has recently updated the handbook and these changes have been implemented within our district and are highlighted in the links below in both English and Spanish.
All Kindergarten and 1st Grade students are screened for dyslexia. 1st Grade students are screened in January and Kindergarten students are screened at the end of the year beginning in April.
With parent approval, a student may be fully evaluated through special education services. This full initial evaluation is comprehensive in scope and includes assessments for dyslexia and dyslexia related disorders in addition to other learning disabilities.
Once an assessment/evaluation is completed, the IEP committee in coordination with the special education program or the 504 committee will determine eligibility and programming. To request an assessment or evaluation, please contact your student’s principal or teacher.
If your child has been identified with dyslexia, you have access to the Talking Book Program through the Texas State Library.
